In Costa Rica the birds represent a high biological diversity of the wildlife. The country location and its geological origin make that possible. The diversity is divided into four ornithological areas: Highland, Caribbean slope, North Pacific and South Pacific. In 2016, 920 birds species were identified in Costa Rica; 56 of them are endemic and more than 800 stay in the country the in the year occupying different ecosystems around it.

A total of 1 077 308 hectares around the country are protected by National parks, forest and wildlife reserves where around 160 amphibian,  205 mammal and 220 reptile species  can be found.

Las aves de Costa Rica representan una alta diversidad biológica dentro de la fauna de país, resultado de su ubicación y origen geológico. La diversidad de aves se divide en cuatro provincias ornitológicas: Tierras Altas, Vertiente del Caribe, Pacífico Norte y Pacífico Sur. Para 2016, se habían identificado 920 especies de aves, 56 de las cuales endemicas y mas de 800 especies permanecen todo el año en territorio nacional, ocupando diversos ecosistemas en las zonas de vida del país.

Un total de 1 077 308 hectáreas del país esta protegida por parques nacionales, reservas forestales y de fauna silvestre. Se estima que hay 160 especies de anfibios, 205 especies de mamíferos y 220 especies de reptiles habitando todas estos habitas ecológicos.
